Lockwood, Nevada Overview

Lockwood was originally known as Happy Valley during the late 1800s when the Lagomarsino Family moved to the area from Genoa, Italy. A 16-mile trail leading to Virginia City formed from the later named Lagomarsino Canyon. In 1916, Carl Lockwood bought the Lagomarsino Ranch that served as a resting place along the route.

Lockwood connects to Reno through Interstate 80, about six miles east of Sparks.. While Lockwood feels remote from other northern Nevada communities, it is only 15 minutes from the heart of Reno. The Lockwood Trailhead begins on the shores of the Truckee River west of this neighborhood.

Louise Peri Park is one of the only parks in Lockwood, providing a sizable field and playground. Hillside Elementary School is adjacent to the park and is the only school located in Lockwood. Storey County School District serves the neighborhood of Lockwood and has four schools available to residents including Virginia City Middle School and Virginia City High School. The commute to these schools is longer than most in Northern Nevada, although the smaller class size is a huge benefit. Virginia City High School holds a student-to-teacher ratio of nearly 10 to 1.
