St. James' Village, Reno Overview

St. James’ Village is the most unique gated community in all of Northern Nevada, surrounded by the Toiyabe National Forest and Mount Rose Wilderness. The dense forests offer exceptional privacy to residents of the 500-home site community. The neighborhood is spread out across 1,600 acres of land in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas, allowing for one-to-four acre plots of property. St James’ Village contains five succinct neighborhoods; Bennington, Edgewood, Ridge Crest, Timberlake Court, and The Woods.

St. James’ Village is less than three miles from Washoe Lake and Little Washoe Lake, Scripps State Wildlife Management Area, and the ghost town Washoe City. Little Washoe Lake Trail follows the southeastern shore of the smaller lake. Washoe Lake State Park is a fifteen-minute drive from the gated community, providing hiking trails, camping grounds, water activities, horseback riding, and birdwatching.

Bowers Mansion Regional Park is less than 10 minutes from St. James’ Village when you follow Bowers Mansion Road past Davis Creek Trailhead. The mansion is the well-maintained historic home of the wealthy Bowers family from the Comstock Lode era. The estate sits alongside a playground, outdoor pool, and a field for the annual summer concert series and other events. Galena Creek Regional Park and Galena Creek Recreation Area are only a 20-minute drive from St. James. Here, you can access the beautiful trails Galena Trail, Jones Trail, or the White’s Creek Trail. The park is home to the Galena Fish Hatchery and an impressive Visitor’s Center.

Nevada’s capitol Carson City is a 20-minute drive south of the St. James Village. This historical city has museums, city fairgrounds, and fantastic restaurants. South Reno is roughly 15 minutes north of St. James, making the stores of South Towne Crossing convenient to the neighborhood for daily or weekly needs. Galena Junction Shopping Center is another great shopping center in South Reno with Raley’s, Bully’s Sports Bar & Grill, and Truckee Bagel Company. The Summit Reno is a premium outdoor mall with over 60 different retailers, restaurants, and businesses. The center includes shops like Apple, Dilliard’s, and Old Navy, with restaurants like Miguel’s Mexican Food, Burger Me!, and Skipolini’s.

The Toiyabe Golf Club of Washoe Valley is a sensational golf resort sitting at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Toiyabe is challenging yet accommodates to all levels of play, providing seven sets of tees. The closest ski resort to the village is Mount Rose Ski Tahoe, 30 minutes away by car. When you’re feeling lucky, head to Tamarack Junction Casino of South Reno. Hit the slots or enjoy a meal at the Tamarack Junction Steakhouse.

The private Montreux Golf & Country Club broke ground in 1997 north of St. James Village. The 18-hole golf course was designed by Jack Nicklaus. He considers it one of his “top five courses” and it was once ranked no. 26 on the PGA Tour’s difficulty scale. Montreux has hosted the Reno-Tahoe Open, later named the Barracuda Championship, since 1999.

Hunsberger Elementary School is on Arrowcreek Parkway near Sage Ridge School and serves the students of St. James’ Village. Hunsberger is open to students in kindergarten through sixth grade and offers a variety of after school programs. Pine Middle School has served students of the gated community until Herz Middle School will open in the fall of 2020. Galena High School, home of the Galena Grizzlies, educates St. James’ high schoolers. This school joined the Washoe County School District in 1992.
